Situated in the Greater Toronto Area, the Region of Peel is the second
largest municipality in Ontario, with a population of more than 1,200,000
people. Within the Region, our focus is the municipalities of Mississauga
and Brampton.
Peel has undergone a major transformation during the past few decades. Rapid
population growth and commercial development have transformed what was primarily
a rural area of farms and villages, into a dynamic blend of urban, industrial
and residential areas. Most notably, this Region is one of the most culturally
diverse areas in Canada with more than 150 different cultures residing in Peel.
Peel is adding approximately 30,000 new residents each year to its population
and this ongoing increase in population is putting a strain on many services.
